[doi.org] A 52-year-old man had aregenerative anemia unresponsive to pyridoxine Acute megakaryocytic leukemia (M7-AML) is a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which is associated with poor prognosis. It is characterized by a proliferation of ≥20% megakaryoblasts identified by specific antigens using flow cytometry with associated extensive myelofibrosis of the bone marrow.

M7 leukemia is not infrequent in children younger than 3 years of age, especially in those with Down's syndrome.

This is a rare form of leukemia in dogs. Acute megakaryocytic leukemia (AMKL) is a rare type of acute leukemia that was first reported in 1931 by Von Boros .

Megakaryocytic leukemia

Acute megakaryocytic leukemia (AMegL) is a rare subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) evolving from primitive megakaryoblasts. Because of its rarity and the lack of precise diagnostic criteria in the past, few series of adults treated with contemporary therapy have been reported.

IAIM, 201 9; 6(6): 128 -131. Abstract Patient with Down's syndrome (DS) are found to have an increased risk of developing various hematological disorders.

The clinical, hematologic, and histologic features of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia are described for an 8-year-old female Domestic Shorthair cat, a 3-year-old female mixed-breed dog, and a 3-year-old male German Shepherd Dog. The neoplastic cells were characterized as belonging to the megakaryocytic lineage.
